Antonio Di Benedetto

Antonio Di Benedetto, born in Argentina in 1922, lived a life marked by exile. After publishing several novels and short story collections in the 1950s and 60s, in 1976 he was imprisoned and tortured by the Argentinian military dictatorship, and went into exile in Spain until 1984. Ever since his death in 1986, Di Benedetto’s work has continued to garner renown, and he is now counted among the most influential Latin American writers of the twentieth century. He is perhaps best known for his collection of short stories Animal World and his novel Zama.
