Steven Boykey Sidley

Steven Boykey Sidley is a South African author, playwright, and academic, currently a Professor of Practice at the Johannesburg Business School and the head of the Blockchain and the Cryptoverse Research Group at the University of Johannesburg.

Educated at the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of California, Los Angeles, Sidley was a co-founder of several companies, including Prism Payment Technologies and Agilitude, and held high-level positions such as the Group Chief Technology Officer at Anglo American and Altech/Altron.

Steven Boykey Sidley authored seven books, including Entanglement, Stepping Out, Imperfect Solo, Free Association, Leaving Word, and the play Shape, co-written with his wife, Kate Sidley.

In 2022, he co-authored Beyond Bitcoin: Decentralised Finance and The End of Banks with Simon Dingle, exploring the transformative power of blockchain and cryptocurrency.

His latest book, It's Mine (2023), delves into the evolving concept of ownership in the context of the cryptocurrency industry. With an emphasis on Bitcoin's influence and potential, the book offers an engaging exploration of the history and ecosystems that nurture ownership.

It's Mine presents a blend of anecdotes, observations, and interviews, making complex subjects like Bitcoin and blockchain technology accessible and entertaining for a broad audience.

Sidley currently resides in Johannesburg.
