Born in New York City, Rosemary Wells was raised in New Jersey. She grew up in a theatre family. Her mother was a ballet dancer for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and her father was an actor-playwright.

“We had a houseful of wonderful books. Reading stories aloud was as much a part of my childhood as the air I breathed,” Wells recalls. Wells attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

"In my young life, I was disappointed not to become the first female major league baseball player and also disappointed not to have a career as an FBI agent. So I turned to write and illustration and have never looked back," says the author.

In 1968, she published her first book, an illustrated version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s A Song to Sing, O! Wells has since published more than 120 books and has been nominated for numerous awards. In her picture books, she pairs her delightful illustrations with humorous and emotionally adept themes.

Among her bestselling picture book, titles are Voyage to the Bunny Planet, My Very First Mother Goose, and Read to Your Bunny. Rosemary Wells is best known for the Max and Ruby series, depicting sibling bunnies' adventures.
