Silje Ulstein

Silje Ulstein is a Norwegian author who garnered widespread acclaim with her debut novel, Reptile Memoirs (2020), which quickly ascended to bestseller status in Norway.

Silje Osnes Ulstein was born in Alesund. She holds an M.A. in Nordic Studies focused on Literature Dissemination from the University of Oslo and studied creative writing at the Bergen Writing Academy.

In 2017, Ulstein published three short stories in the anthology "Signaler". In 2020, she released her debut novel, Reptile ("Krypdyrmemoarer"), which established her unique position within Norwegian literature.

This psychological thriller is set between Lesund and Kristiansund between 2003 and 2017 and narrated by Liv, her mother Mariam, two police officers, Roe and Ronja, and the Burmese python Nero.

Ulstein writes with an eye toward contemporary literature, offering readers a unique blend of insight and escapism.

Besides her enthusiasm for diverse storytelling traditions, her eclectic reading preferences include Daniil Kharms, Kristian Bergquist, and E Lockhart.

Silje Ulstein lives in Gjøvik.
