Rebecca Yarros is an American bestselling author. Yarros is best known for her Empyrean fantasy book series, which is being adapted into a television series by Amazon MGM Studios.
Rebecca Yarros was born and educated in the United States. She attended Troy University, where she pursued European history and English. While her husband was deployed in Afghanistan, she began writing.
Her debut novel, Full Measures (2014), was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award for Debut Goodreads Author. In 2019, The Last Letter was recognized by Kirkus Reviews as one of the year's best books.
Her literary career took a significant turn with the release of the Empyrean series. The first book, Fourth Wing (2023), published by Red Tower Books, has sold millions of copies in over 40 languages. By late June 2023, it reached the number one spot on Amazon's bestseller list and featured on The New York Times Best Seller list for 18 weeks, including periods at the top position.
Its success continued with recognition in other rankings, including the USA Today bestseller list. The novel was also shortlisted for the Young Adult Jury Award at the German Youth Literature Awards, to be awarded at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2024.
The second installment in the series, Iron Flame (2023), also enjoyed remarkable success, becoming the fastest-selling pre-order title on the Waterstones website in a single day, with a special edition selling out in just seven hours. Yarros plans to extend the Empyrean series to five books, adding depth to her expansive fantasy universe.
In addition to her writing, Yarros's role in adapting her book series into a television series with Amazon, where she serves as a non-writing executive producer.
Rebecca Yarros is the mother of six children, including a daughter adopted from the foster system who is non-verbal and on the autism spectrum. Through the non-profit organization OneOctober, Yarros and her husband are working to improve the lives of foster children.
