On the surface, the average workplace seems picture-perfect. But despite all the hard-fought gains scored over the years by employees, women, especially of color, are still facing numerous unique challenges which often tend to be misunderstood, read out of context, ignored, or employers and colleagues are oblivious to their existence. In most cases, this practice is more prevalent in male-dominated industries.

Instead of staying on to fight, conform, explain themselves, or wait to be understood, women of color are choosing to leave these industries for women-dominated fields, or venture into business quietly, and in large numbers. The result is a silent exodus that threatens to upset the dynamics of the workplace as we know it, and lead to the loss of an integral and productive part of the workforce, which in turn, could lead to immeasurable losses to all stakeholders if not urgently addressed.

This book is meant to shake up how we think about equity, inclusion, and our shared responsibility. When women of color leaders step back, we all move backward. In The Great Resignation: A Race to Save Women of Color Leaders in the Workplace – and Our Collective Roles, Deejay Mash lays bare the stakes—and shows how you can be part of the solution.
