From Ken Sparling’s intro: “When someone asked me what Dad Says He Saw You at the Mall was about, it felt like I’d seen a beautiful tree and struggled to describe it to someone, only to have that someone say: ‘Yes, but what is the tree about?’ You wouldn’t know how to answer that question. It isn’t the right question. The tree wasn't ever about anything. It was just beautiful.”

Anytime I saw something, I bought it.

As a product of two destructive behaviours—Constructive and Indecisive, I can totally relate to this. The only thing that is stopping me from being completely impoverished is my financial dilemmas.

Dad Says He Saw You at the Mall is about thinking about where you want to be at the end of thinking about where you want to be.

I am deeply in awe of the repetitive language structure of this novel.
There is something about choosing redundant words that makes the storytelling unrestrained but at the same time unusual.
