He soon finds out that it's not a what, but who.
The creature they're after shouldn't exist, silver scales and wings folded back, beautiful and impossible. When she shifts, grabs his arm, and she tells him to run, he is dragged into her gravitational pull and he doesn't remember how he's survived so long without her. He won't let the hunters find her, but keeping her safe in his home also means keeping her trapped there… and the problem with that is that he doesn't see a problem with that at all.

“Do you know who's after you?” he asks, trying not to stare at the way she's licking the bowl clean, tongue darting out to lick the bottom of the bowl as she makes incredibly inappropriate noises.
There's soup on top of her lips when she sets the bowl down.
He doesn't even think about it. He just reaches forward and rubs his thumb over her top lip.
Her lips fall open and she darts her tongue up to give his thumb a kitten lick. “Oh,” she hums.
The ache in his groin has turned into a monster. He groans and pulls his hand back as if burnt. “Sorry,” he says, but he's really not. Unable to resist the urge, he brings his thumb to his mouth and sucks it clean. Tastes like her.
