Think Like Einstein: Think Smarter, Creatively Solve Problems, and Sharpen Your Judgment. How to Develop a Logical Approach to Life and Ask the Right Questions

I didn’t know it at the time, but I was making the mistake of thinking too literally. The questions I kept asking were about how someone must have broken into the room and slain the man and snuck back out, and that the room only had the illusion of impenetrability. I couldn’t think outside the box and view the puddle of water as something different – a block of ice, as it could have been a few hours ago.

They’re hard to catch, but people love to use straw man arguments when they feel like they have nothing legitimate on their side, so they have to make their arguments about the implications, or ripple effect, and not the argument itself.

    straw man argument.

    Here’s how it sounds:

Argument: “This is why the gym should be closed.”
Straw man: “So you’re saying you’re against health and for the obesity epidemic of this country?”
You: “Well, that wasn’t really what I was saying…”

In other words, you will remember something far better if you study for one hour a day, versus twenty hours in one weekend
